Where It All Began: The Origin of Maxey
Picture this: a bustling home in the early 1970s, where Michael "Maxey" Weathersby Jr. (American, b. 1971)—the future artist, producer, and Founder & Chief Operating Officer of the Hybrid Arts Coalition—is just a toddler.
On an ordinary day, his mother, preoccupied with household chores, suddenly notices an unusual silence. The usual pitter‑patter of her energetic two‑year‑old is gone. Alarmed, she sweeps through the house in search of him.
And there, in a room transformed into a canvas of chaos, she finds a tiny figure entirely covered in powder‑blue paint—like a living, breathing baby Smurf. The little adventurer had stumbled upon a bucket of paint left unattended by his father, who'd been in the midst of painting their new home.
What she saw next was a masterpiece of mayhem: the floors streaked with blue, the walls smeared as high as his little hands could reach. It earned young Maxey a well‑deserved old‑fashioned reprimand and the dreaded "nap time," but it was also the moment the world's first glimpse of the artist we now know as "Maxey" came to life.
